Indexing Service is a Windows service to index all your files and folders for Windows Search needs and that will help you a lot. But on other hand this service will slow down your computer because every you add or modify files or folders, this service will monitor it and record it. So, if you rarely using Windows Search (like me), just disable it to boost up your computer speed.

In fact, Indexing Service will use a lot memory resource when it start, it will using about 4MB memory resource, and approx. 30 seconds after started, Indexing Service takes up memory about 300KB.
So after looking the above fact, if you rarely using Windows Search, you have a reason to disable it now.
To disable Indexing Service, click Start - Run menu, type services.msc in textbox then press Enter key. In Service window, find Indexing Service item, to modify the setting values double click Indexing Service item in list and if you look that the Indexing Service has been stop, just leave it then close the Service console directly, but if the service in running mode , cl
ick Stop button then in Startup type combobox choose Manual value, at last click OK to confirm the modified.

If you want keep the service running but you don't want the service, indexing a certain drive, double click My Computer, right click your hard drive then uncheck Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching option in General tab then click OK to save the setting. Now your Indexing Service still running but your drive is not indexing by the Indexing Service.
